The detailed Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) 04/2026 was issued on 13 August 2026. Earlier, a short notice had indicated around 4098 posts; the final detailed notification confirms 3993 vacancies for technical posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal & Telecommunication, Stores and related disciplines.

This is one of the major railway technical recruitments of the year. Selected candidates will be posted in different railway zones and production units across India. The posts come under Level-6 of the 7th CPC pay matrix.

Eligibility Criteria for RRB JE 2026

Educational Qualification

• Junior Engineer (JE): Three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline OR BE/B.Tech in the relevant stream from a recognised university/institution.
• Depot Material Superintendent (DMS): Three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognised university/institution.
• Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA): B.Sc. with Physics and Chemistry as main subjects with minimum 55% marks (as per detailed criteria).

Candidates must possess the required qualification on or before the last date of application (13 September 2026). Those awaiting final results are generally not eligible.

Age Limit (as on 01 January 2027)

• Maximum Age: 33 years

Age Relaxation (as per RRB rules):

• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years

Selection Process

The selection process for RRB JE, DMS and CMA posts consists of the following stages:

1. 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-1) – Screening test
2. 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-2) – Merit-determining stage
3. Document Verification (DV)
4. Medical Examination (ME)

Shortlisting for CBT-2 is generally done in the ratio of about 15 times the number of vacancies based on CBT-1 performance (normalised scores). Final merit is prepared primarily on the basis of CBT-2 marks, subject to document verification and medical fitness.

Salary / Pay Scale
