The final result of the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2020 was released by the Union Public Service Commission in the first week of July 2021. The written exam had taken place on 6 September 2020. After the written stage, candidates who cleared the cut-off were called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. Vacancy and Course Details

The examination was conducted for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy for the 146th Course and for the Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme) for the 108th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC).

As per the original notification, the approximate number of vacancies was around 370 for NDA (including 208 for Army, 42 for Navy and 120 for Air Force, of which 28 were for ground duties) plus seats for the Naval Academy. After the complete selection process, UPSC recommended 478 candidates in order of merit.

The merit list is arranged according to the total marks obtained in the written examination and the SSB interview. In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate was placed higher. If age was also the same, the candidate with higher written marks was given preference.

Eligibility Criteria (As Per Original Notification)

Candidates who appeared in this examination had to fulfil the following basic conditions at the time of application:

• Age Limit: Between 16½ years and 19½ years as on the date prescribed in the notification.
• Educational Qualification:
  – For Army Wing of NDA – 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
  – For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy – 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or equivalent.
• Nationality: A citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to eligibility certificate).
• Marital Status: Only unmarried male candidates were eligible.

Physical and medical standards were also prescribed in detail in the official notification. Even after recommendation in the final result, candidates had to clear the medical examination conducted by the military medical boards.

Selection Process Explained

The complete selection process for NDA & NA (II) 2020 consisted of three main stages:

1. Written Examination
   Conducted by UPSC on 6 September 2020. The paper had two parts – Mathematics (300 marks) and General Ability Test (600 marks). Total marks for written stage were 900.
2. Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview
   Candidates who cleared the written examination were called for SSB. The interview process lasts five days and includes Officer Intelligence Rating tests, Picture Perception and Description Test, Psychological tests, Group Testing Officer tasks, and the Personal Interview. SSB carries 900 marks.
3. Medical Examination
   After SSB, candidates underwent a detailed medical examination. Importantly, the results of the medical examination were not considered while preparing the final merit list of 478 candidates. Medical fitness is checked separately before joining.

Only those who cleared both written and SSB were included in the final recommended list released by UPSC.

How to Check UPSC NDA II 2020 Final Result – Step by Step

Even though the result is old, many students and parents still search for it. Here is the clear method that worked at the time and still works for downloading the PDF from the UPSC archive:

1. Open any browser and go to the official website of UPSC – https://www.upsc.gov.in
2. On the homepage, look for the section “What’s New” or go to the “Examinations” tab.
3. Search or scroll to find the link titled “Final Result: National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2020”.
4. Click on the link. A PDF file will open or download.
5. The PDF contains the list in order of merit with Serial Number, Roll Number and Name of the candidate.
6. Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard (or Command + F on Mac) and type your roll number or name.
7. If your details appear, note the serial number. Download the complete PDF and take a clear printout.
8. Keep the printout safely. It may be required during document verification or joining formalities.

Marks of individual candidates were uploaded by UPSC approximately 15 days after the final result was declared. Candidates could check their written and SSB marks on the same website using their roll number and date of birth.

After the final result, every recommended candidate received further instructions through the Ministry of Defence. The key points were:

• Keep multiple printouts and a soft copy of the merit list PDF.
• If your name appears in the list, start preparing the required documents immediately. Delays in submission can create problems.
• Medical standards for NDA and Naval Academy are strict. Even after recommendation, a candidate can be declared medically unfit.
