Selection Procedure

Part A – Applicable for all applicants other than for Hindi Officers.

Preliminary Examination

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination (applicable to all disciplines except for Hindi Officers)

The Preliminary Examination comprises Objective Tests with Multiple Choice type Questions, totaling 100 marks, conducted online (excluding Hindi Officers). This examination will have a duration of 60 minutes, consisting of three sections with separate timings for each section.

Candidates must achieve passing marks in each test/section, and the Company will determine the qualifying criteria. The Company will shortlist an adequate number of candidates in each category, approximately 15 times the number of vacancies, based on availability, for the Main Examination.

Main Examination online

Phase – II: Main Examination online (applicable for all disciplines except for Hindi Officers)

The NICL AO Main Examination will comprise Objective Tests, consisting of Multiple Choice type Questions, accounting for 250 marks, and a Descriptive Test for 30 Marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be conducted online. Candidates are required to respond to the Descriptive Test by typing on the computer. The Descriptive Test will be administered immediately after the completion of the Objective Test.

Objective Test: The Objective Test of 3 Hours duration consists of five & six sections for Generalists & Specialists respectively for a total of 250.

Photograph Image:

  • Recent passport-style color picture.
  • Color photograph against a light-colored, preferably white, background.
  • Look straight at the camera with a relaxed face.

Scanning the Documents:

  • Set scanner resolution to a minimum of 200 dpi.
  • Set color to True Color.
  • Crop the image in the scanner to the edge of the left thumb impression/hand-written declaration.
  • Image file format: JPG or JPEG.
  • Image dimensions: Check by listing the folder files or moving the mouse over the file image icon.
  • Scanned documents can be saved in .jpg/.jpeg format using MS Paint or MS-Office Picture Manager.
  • If the file size and format are incorrect, an error message will be displayed.
